My students need a variety of books for our book clubs. Many students this year aren't inspired to read. I want to inspire my students to read and enjoy great books.
We are in a Title I school where 50% of our students are receiving financial assistance for lunches, books, and other items. We are in a rural farming community where funding has become less and less for our schools in our community and budgets are tight.
My students are amazing and thirsty for learning and knowledge.
I want to make make sure they have every opportunity to maximize their potential. My students love to read books, and write stories. We have a very literacy-driven classroom with a great community.
My Project
My students are hungry, not only for the food at lunch time, but for new books in our classroom. Reading is my PASSION and joy to teach students. I was so disappointed to hear many students this year say that they hate reading. I don't think they hate reading but I do think they hate the books they are trying to read. One big struggle for our building is the lack of books for students to read. Book choice and variety is crucial to engaging struggling readers. These books below are at a variety of levels, and have a variety of great themes helping to engage students.
Think of the feeling that you have when you read an amazing novel.
A book that makes you love, laugh, and cry with the characters. A book that inspires you to make a difference in your world. Reading the books in this list below will instill this kind of reaction and compassion in our students. Our school is a 4-6th grade building. We are in a rural area with small grade levels and very limited funding. Over 50% of our students qualify for free or reduced price lunches. This book would be a great opportunity to expand our students global awareness within our classroom.
Unfortunately, with our rural location our access to books is limited. By providing additional books to my classroom library, I can encourage students to read more often. With catchy titles for my classroom library, my students could become hooked on reading. This will help lead to discussions about characters and the conflicts they overcome, themes of friendship, problem solving, and being brave, kindness, and overcoming challenges both the characters and students will face! Reading these books truly instill compassion, empathy, challenge our thinking. Help me create life long Readers!!
