Our school serves 7th and 8th-grade students. We have a very high population of free and reduced students. Many of our students are living with their grandparents because their parents cannot care for them for whatever reason. This year, we are trying to do a hybrid model for our students where they come into the building two days a week. As a result, much of their instruction is digital. This can be very hard on both teachers and students. Our 8th graders are putting their best foot forward but after being surveyed, miss being in class with their friends and teachers. As of today, we had to pause in-person instruction for two weeks because of the amount of teachers needing to be quarantined. It is our hope to get back to our kids and see them face to face. Our 8th graders are amazing students!
My Project
We are living in a time where, unfortunately, all of our learning is digital. Our hope is to provide our 8th-grade students with a book they can pick up and read that isn't attached to a computer. It is our goal to provide our students with the novel called Daniel's Story to enhance the unit we teach about the Holocaust. I am lucky to teach with an expert in the Holocaust, J. Scott. Together it is our goal to enlighten students about this period in world history and empower them to change the world for the better. This novel would help our students with their learning.
