This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach at a Title I school in the middle of the Las Vegas Valley. Although the school is a Creative Arts Magnet, I have students from all walks of life in my classes. We are a school within a school, meaning that our school houses students in the magnet program and students who are locally zoned to attend. All students get to benefit from our amazing programs!
Getting students to focus on their core classes can be a challenge when they are so excited about their art, music and dance classes.
Years ago I found a novel that keeps my 8th graders interested in reading and learning, but my copies of the novel are old and in various states of disrepair from all the love they have received over the past 10 years. I am looking to secure a new class set of the novel Tears of a Tiger by Sharon Draper.
