A Novel Approach To English

My students need to acquire four class sets of the novels To Kill a Mockingbird, The Help, Fair and Tender Ladies, and A Streetcar Named Desire.

My Students

The population of students that will be served by this projects are all students that are enrolled in English I, II, III, and IV. All students that attend the school go to the library and are required to do novel studies, no matter what their ability level.

This project will provide class sets of novels that will be utilized by the English Department to teach all students enrolled in those courses, which includes students with disabilities and students that are English Language Learners.

This project will address needs by allowing students to have access to pieces of literature that will better broaden their experiences in the English classroom through a novel study.

My Project

The addition of these four class sets of novels will provide ongoing benefits to students through the creation of a common bond and deeper understanding of pieces of literature. These four novels (To Kill a Mockingbird, The Help, Fair and Tender Ladies, and A Streetcar Named Desire) will be utilized in conjunction with Socratic questioning and the Padeia seminar type of instruction in order for all students to be able to interact and experience these pieces of literature.

This project is creative and innovative for students because for some students this will be one of the few opportunities to interact with pieces of literature using a multi-modal approach to learning through their English classes.
