This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My class goal is to create a lifelong love for gardening and share it with our community. Every student deserves a connection with nature. Our vibrant urban environment, while exciting, often limits students' exposure to the natural world. Gardening offers invaluable experiences that inspire creativity, mindfulness, and a lifelong appreciation for the environment.
Introducing gardening to our students will spark curiosity, develop observational skills, and foster a sense of wonder.
It will encourage them to observe and identify local species, cultivate attention to detail, and inspire a love for nature and a desire to protect it.
We'll need wildflowers, herbs, vegetable seeds, topsoil, and some tools to begin our indoor garden. My goal is to start seeds for various vegetables and spices, and then send some plants home with students so they can share the joy of indoor gardening with their families. They can learn to grow tomatoes, peppers, cilantro, basil, and other staples of Hispanic cooking.
This project will provide our students with a holistic nature experience, enriching their lives and sparking a lifelong passion for learning and creativity. Gardening will also strengthen our classroom's STEM activities, providing hands-on, real-world applications of scientific principles.
Let's create a memorable and educational experience that will blossom into a lasting love for nature in our students.
