My students need basic school supplies, such as highlighters, scissors, and colored pencils, to begin the new school year feeling prepared and confident.
My students are freshmen in Language Arts classes. These students attend one of the many high schools in our urban school district. With such a large population of students, our supplies are extremely limited. In attempting to make learning fun, creative, and new, my students are asked to take part in more than just writing assignments. They are often challenged to design posters, banners, comic strips, etc. to demonstrate their understanding of a literary text or skill in more ways than one.
My Project
Coming from low-income families, school supplies are often times not a priority to my students' families. For many of them, school supplies are hard to come by and often are not purchased before the beginning of the school year.
Without the pressure of coming to school unprepared, students will feel more comfortable, engaged and not as if they are starting the school at a disadvantage.
Your donations would help to supply my incoming freshmen with the basic supplies needed to make their learning experience enjoyable and successful while keeping them organized within our classroom. Students will be supplied pencils, erasers, scissors, crayons, colored pencils, highlighters and glue. Your donations would also help to supply students with individual, personal dry erase boards to use as an innovative way of participating in class discussions and group tasks. Lastly, your generosity will also provide students a place to keep their supplies in the classroom in an organized manner via the mobile storage tower. With their supplies safely stowed away in the classroom, students will not have to worry about where and how to organizer their resources!
