My Project
I am joining the first grade Dual Language Immersion team this year! We will share 60 students who will be working very hard, not only on mastering foundational literacy skills, and building their number sense, and knowledge of math strategies, but also embarking on the journey of learning a second language!
Through deep collaboration with my teammate, we aspire to provide a safe, organized environment, with access to crucial resources.
Students develop a strong sense of responsibility for their space and a jobs chart will support this - especially when they will spend time in two different classrooms. We facilitate several different reading interventions, and one of them requires headphones with a high quality microphone as students will get to read and listen to their own recordings. First grade is an essential year in literacy, and I have found that some students really struggle with writing. I am hoping the items I have requested here can be a fun way to strength symbol-sound correspondence so it not only supports their decoding of the letters when reading, but also bolsters their formation of the letters themselves. Encoding, writing the letters that represents the sounds they want to write, is crucial for supporting early phonics. Other materials requested would support the access to crucial resources, as well as organization that will be required with 60 students sharing desks and classrooms!
