My Students
Early childhood education teachers can all agree on one thing: students thrive on structure, organization, and routine. Our students are unique and energetic learners who each have very specific goals and skills they are working on, throughout the day. Every activity that is designed in our classroom is geared towards accomplishing these goals. These goals go beyond academics and include activities of daily living and social skills.
With such high energy my students are always on the move and looking for something to do.
They love a challenge and are excited when they are able to accomplish something that was previously challenging. We encourage each other and create a safe space for risk taking.
My Project
One of the most important things a child can learn in their early years is independence. Our students need furniture that is kid-friendly in order to continue to be independent and model organization in the classroom.
With a new math center students will be able to access tools throughout the lesson independently.
Our new math curriculum is very manipulative and tool focused. We want students to have access to the various tools throughout the year. By having a math center in the front of the room we will be able to organize our books by math groups with ease and also keep the manipulatives in plain sight. The freedom to choose the best tool for them as an individual takes not only independence but also self-awareness to recognize what works best for them. Having multiple tools displayed will allow our students to try various tools until they find what works for them.
