Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our school has very poor funding for classes that are not core classes. This year, we introduced our students with a new language rather than only Spanish, which in my community most students speak. We have 40 students enrolled in French 1 and expecting to do French 2 also.
A new language besides Spanish, showed students that they can expand their experience at school and opens themselves more opportunities for their future.
This has them excited because as a teacher I keep opening their minds to travel the World and expand their experiences outside of their comfort zone. Students have been engaged about learning it and in one year, 90% of them can translate a story, communicate basic needs in French and know in average 300 vocabulary words. Next year we will add a second level but we are in need of materials to teach. I hope you can fund this project so students can not only have French as an optional class, but as a core subject that will add them graduation requirements.
