A New Generation of Gardeners!

My students need an Aerogarden to start plants in science class that will be transplanted into pots for indoor growth and eventually planted in our outdoor schoolyard habitat.

My Students

My students are curious fifth graders who love to share their knowledge through technology and hands-on projects. Our school houses grades four, five, and six with a total of around 350 students.

In the morning, students are knocking the doors down to get in the school.

They all want to participate in morning clubs which include: Video Production, Stock Market Club, and Maker's Club.

Our school is in a rural town in Pennsylvania. The town was declared financially distressed in 2004 when a number of plants shut down and moved their operations out of the country. Unfortunately, the label has yet to be lifted and our school qualifies as a Title I school.

My Project

Next year we will be moving to a brand new school and we will be leaving our schoolyard habitat behind. Over the past seventeen years, thousands of students have worked in the gardens and changed the landscape of our schoolyard from a grassy yard to a wooded area where animals have found their homes.

Starting a new schoolyard habitat will be hard work, but it will also be rewarding.

The supplies I am asking for would help us to get started on our project in the winter months. I would like to start with an herb garden, and the Aerogarden does a wonderful job starting herbs. We can also use the empty sponges to plant seeds for plants that are natural to our habitat.

Having started a schoolyard habitat seventeen years ago and seeing the fruits of the labor all of the students put into it, I can assure you this is a worthwhile project that will go on giving for years to come.
