A New Country and Classroom, but Organized for Success
My students need 15 seat organizers to help them stay organized in their new American 4th grade classroom.

My Students
My students attend the oldest elementary school in the nation, but our school often struggles to provide necessary supplies and classroom materials due to yearly budget cuts. My 4th graders come to my classroom with a diverse range of needs, challenges and experiences, and problems can arise from a lack of understanding about each other's cultures and lives.
My students are from African American and white American as well as recent immigrants from Vietnam, Cape Verde, Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic, and they are learning how to become serious students in the United States.
Some of my students are accustomed to 50 person classes where they only needed to bring a notebook and a pencil, and these superstars need help learning how to stay organized with the multi-subject and station-centered American classrooms.
My Project
As my students transition from Sheltered English Immersion classrooms, they often struggle staying organized in station centered classrooms. Many of their countries have educational settings that are more lecture style, and my students often need to be taught how to "be a student" in American-style classrooms with more movement, choice and projects.
This donation of 15 classroom seat backs will allow my students to participate fully in projects and group work while still staying organized for academic success.
A little can go a long way for my 9 and 10 year olds who are just learning how to be serious students, and this small addition to my classroom will have a great impact on students' need for organization and structure in a student-centered classroom.
