A New Classroom Library For Students to Enjoy and Love!!!
Help me give my students these books will allow for my students to really get a grasp of not only fiction books, but also nonfiction. It will expand their knowledge and help them make connections between books.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are lively, passionate, hard-working and persistent; however, for many of them, reading hasn't come easy. My classroom consists of students with autism spectrum disorder and/or intellectual disabilities. Despite their academic challenges they love to learn and are eager to be exposed to new topics, books, and new ideas. My classroom supports students in the 12:1:1 and 8:1:1 academic setting in a specialized school within NYC’s Department of Education. My students each have a variety of unique academic challenges, yet their passion to learn and their desire to absorb new information is shared by all of them.
My student love learning new things and although reading isn't something that is easy for them, they still enjoy trying.
My students would benefit so much from having an extensive library.
My Project
Currently, my classroom library is pretty sparse and doesn't have the variety of books that my students crave. Even though they have a wide range of reading levels, they enjoy having diverse options to read independently and with each other. However, right now there aren't enough options for them in my current classroom library. I've handpicked books that are both interesting and reading level appropriate for my students. My students are interested in learned about history and everything that has happened around them. They want to learn more about the people that came before them, and also want to continue to get lost in books by reading fiction books. These books will provide them with interesting characters and plots that will help to develop a love of reading. With your support, my students will go from hesitant readers to lovers of books!
