A Need to Play & Build Relationships

My Students

We have wonderful students! We are a very diverse group. About half the students have come from other countries around the world. They are eager to learn new skills and concepts to further their education. Communication is a key learning skill that is being developed.

The privilege of having such a diverse group of students is such an awesome learning experience for all of us.

We are trying to build on the diversity through communicating through playing games. The diversity could be a potential inhibitor, but we are working to use the diversity as a positive, to build communication and relationships. The diversities can be a great plus for us!

My Project

The students at our school absolutely love, love playing soccer or futbol, as some students would say. We have found soccer to be a commonality game played around the world and has also been found to be a favorite among our students. The students play every day with the 1 soccer ball we have. The ball is becoming worn and they will soon need a new one. We have asked for a donation of 2 soccer balls. We think two soccer balls could get them through the school year.

Students definitely need at least one "play time" recess per school day.

It is a proven fact how students need at least 30 minutes of recess/play time daily. Recess gives students a break from the academic learning and challenges in the classroom. Students are able to run, play, exercise and communicate and build relationships at recess/play time.

Indoor and Outdoor recess games and equipment is needed for our students. When students go outside to play, we would love to have enough soccer balls, basketballs, bouncy balls, hoola hoops and jump ropes for our 105 kids to play with. Unfortunately, sometimes our students are not able to go outside and play due to the weather. Having a variety of indoor recess games, such as Connect 4, Checkers, Twister, Corn Hole, and many more choices, would allow our students still have time to get up out of their seat, move around, and find an indoor game to play. Inside recess would still provide the active time, plus interactive time with others to communicate and build relationships.
