Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class is made up of unique six and seven year olds. They have significant moderate to severe disabilities including autism. We use an adapted and individualized curriculum to meet each students needs. With the daily challenging behaviors, learning challenges, and sensory impairments, I have learned to think on my feet and adapt very quickly.
They love water play and all sensory activities, two students in particular have blossomed since I introduced water play into their sensory diets.
Everyday, we incorporate art, puppets, creativity, toys, and sensory into their school day to help them reach their full potential and learn to enjoy and love school!
My Project
Being in year two means I am a lot more prepared and know what I am doing. But that also means I need more materials and supplies to reach all my students' potential.
Life moves fast in my classroom and we have lots of needs.
Materials like the turtle weighted blanket, sit and spin, vibrating pillows, body sock and everything else will provide the much-needed sensory supports that my students need to succeed. When a child becomes overwhelmed, being wrapped in a weighted blanket helps to ground them and provide input to their systems that will help them calm down.
