My Students

My 3rd graders are an amazing group of bright, loving, kind, curious students. They love singing The Rounding Song, acting out vocabulary words, and researching animals for writing projects. Most of my students receive free or reduced lunches, take home weekend food bags provided by neighborhood organizations, and remain in the care of older siblings after school. Many have never explored beyond their own neighborhood and extended family.

Technology provides access to a world of possibilities.

In spite of the sometimes harsh world they live in, these students amaze me with their ability to make connections, treat each other with kindness, and explore their world with wonder. As their teacher, I hope to build and encourage their love for learning while helping them overcome hurdles and challenges.

My Project

Our district provides Third Grade students with laptops to take the AZ Merit in an online format. This state test presents several questioning formats, requiring students to click, drag, type, and manipulate the laptop pad. Many students only have access to computers at school. In addition, as the laptops get older, the pads stop working properly. Students become frustrated and give up.

I want my students to demonstrate their abilities, skills, and knowledge without technology becoming a barrier.

Providing each student with a wireless mouse will help them navigate the laptop successfully, focus on learning, and enjoy their experiences with technology in the classroom.
