“Do not train a child to learn by force or harshness; but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each.”
― Plato
My students inspire me.
They have many different challenges yet, they come to school with a desire to improve and learn. We have discussed that according to national statistics, only 2 out of 3 individuals with disabilities will graduate from high school. We work on developing academic, behavior and coping skills that will help them achieve that goal.
My Project
These materials will allow my students to interact with their learning in a different way. It will allow me, as their teacher, to provide more scaffolded instruction. The document camera would allow me to show how to complete assignments and not just explain them. The interactive whiteboard would allow us to solve problems on the whiteboard if they are shown through the computer.
The desks will allow my students that struggle with focusing while sitting, to access their work while being able to stand at the back of the room.
These items will allow my students to defeat the statistics--they will develop the skills needed to graduate.
They will learn coping skills that will help them throughout the rest of their schooling and into their futures.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
