This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Everyone remembers a book (or more) that has been of inspiration.
Imagine how much this collection of books could do in the long run in a classroom where hundreds of kids will spend most of the year.
This collection was curated taking in account not just the Spanish-immersion-nature of the school, but also taking in account the technological trends on today's world. Although traveling to different countries opens our minds and help us to be tolerant and to celebrate our differences, not always is it affordable to do a trip. In any case, the sole act of reading a book opens a window that connects us to another world and to experiment the world in the eyes of authors from far-away lands or to people with a different background that live in our same community. For that reason, the list has books that connect us to the cultures of African Americans, Indian American, Aztecs, Incans, Mayas, Mexican and Puertorriquena.
A few books recount experiences of people ahead of their time who had made of this a better place by generating creative solutions, working hard and inspiring us all around.
The collection also includes some highly interesting reading for kids. With these texts the kids will practice summarizing, finding the main idea, and to be critical to with the information that they encounter.
Finally, there are a few books about nature, nature at our doorsteps here in Oklahoma, and nature in the outer space.
