A MidYear Student's Dream

My students need modern-day support to fall in love with the Bard. The 61 copies of "No Fear Shakespeare Midsummer Nights Dream" helps drama-loving middle schoolers do just that!

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"The course of true love never did run smooth..." and middle schoolers know drama all too well. What many don't know is Shakespeare, but with this accessible edition of Midsummer Night's Dream, students will embrace Shakespeare's language through close reading and performance.

Shakespeare's language and iambic pentameter can be a challenge for anyone, especially seventh graders with a range of reading abilities.

We are at a diverse, dynamic, yet underfunded public school and rely on generous donors to provide us with quality books, including accessible sets of classics like No Fear Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's dream.

My Project

This version of Midsummer Night's Dream will give students a modern day translation side-by-side with Shakespeare's rich language, so that they can have the support they need to fully appreciate his words. With the No Fear Shakespeare version, students will get to perform scenes to make the language come alive in the way Shakespeare intended: for the masses to appreciate. Midsummer is a perfect play for middle schoolers who know well the highs and lows of crushes and conflicts. We are also requesting a set of "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" series and "The Invention of Hugo Cabret," so that we can practice illustrating scenes from the play with some accessible images as models.

When students grapple with challenging language and successfully interpret it their confidence in reading blossoms.

It is amazing to watch the lightbulbs go off as we read Shakespeare and discuss the language, the humor, the plot twists, and the betrayals. Your donation will help students appreciate the best of Shakespeare and learn "What fools these mortals be!"
