Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is filled with students who love to learn and families who wholly value education, despite many with limited means, including 60% on free and reduced meals and language barriers. We have large Special Education population and an even larger English Language Learner population.
In our community, many students are not fortunate enough to have objects which they can call their own.
Students often share their things with all of their various household members, unable to have items just to themselves.
My Project
My students bring as many supplies to school as they can. Being that 60% of our school is on free and reduced meals, many students are not able to bring all the supplies that will help facilitate the best possible learning.
My students need marker boxes, markers, pencils, scissors, glue sticks and materials to label these items.
So often, my students need to use old materials or crayons scrounged up from previous years. These children work so hard and deserve to have their own materials to use in their learning. Having their own items to use and take care of will also teach responsibility in staying organized and keeping material neat and clean.
