Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have just begun to tap into the the exciting world of computer programming and tinkering, and I would love the opportunity to develop my students' skills and abilities in this area!
I have a wonderful group of 5th grade students who are highly motivated and have a true passion for learning.
They are my inspiration as they push me to think outside of the box to develop learning experiences to meet their varying interests and diverse needs. My students represent a very mixed population both culturally and economically, and despite challenges, they always give their own personal best and push to succeed! I teach at a Title 1 school where I am lucky enough to get to work with such dedicated and hard working students and partner with a group of supportive parents who share a common goal in the education of their children.
My Project
My students will use the Chromebook to access websites such as code.org and scratch.mit.edu to develop coding skills and learn the fundamentals of computer programming. These programs will help students develop code language, learn how to write code, and follow instructions to carry out commands. Students will apply the knowledge they will have learned to program the MakeyMakey and tinker with circuits and building in a MakerSpace. Students can build robots using littleBits and motorized Origami.
This project means so much because I work with a population of students who have very little background or knowledge in the computer sciences and have never had the opportunity to work in a MakerSpace.
I hope by receiving these materials, I can begin to build a MakerSpace little by little and help foster my students' creative thinking.
