We are constantly being told that STEM careers are the things we should be preparing our students for. Engineering and technology are the way of the future and student's should be exposed to these subjects early on. We should have them building, coding, creating and problem solving whenever possible.
If we really want students to be successful in these fields, we need to expose primary students to STEM activities without technology.
It is so tempting to always use computers when teaching STEM, but what about asking them to use their minds and hands to create? To build? To solve problems? This is where the true value lies.
For all students, but especially those in the primary grades, too much technology can be counterproductive to what we are trying to teach. The materials I am requesting with this project would be used to create a "maker's space" of sorts. A box of supplies to be used to create solutions to problems we find. A way to create and model our own ideas.
