Help me give my students their own book. We would like to give all the first grade students a copy of The Polar Express after a magical night spent at school!
We want to inspire a love of reading with our first grade students. Getting to sit down and open a book is a wonderful way to open their minds to new and exciting places.
OUR STUDENTS ARE AMAZING!
They come from a very rural area of our county. The level of appreciation our students have for even the smallest gesture or activity is enormous. We are a Title 1 school where most students qualify for free or reduced lunch and funding can be limited for new and exciting ways to learn. Many of our students do not venture far from their rural community so anything we can bring to them is a new and exciting experience. Our goal is to show them that you can have amazing things happen when you simply open a book.
My Project
Our first grade team would like to invite all of our amazing students to spend the night with us at school and have a magical journey abroad the Polar Express.
What if every child could have their own copy of the Polar Express?
Students will be spending the night at school that has transformed into scenes from the Polar Express. Imagine eating in the dining car, climbing a snow-capped peak, or singing carols at the North Pole. We want to immerse the students into all aspects of the book. We will have special activities and stations that coordinate with different scenes from the book. Students will spend the evening immersed in Chris Van Allsburg's imaginative words and illustrations. Our school them is to promote the JOY of reading and we want to bring the joy of the Polar Express to life with our overnight reading experience. One of the last things we would like to do is to gift each student their own copy of the Polar Express so they will always remember the magic they experienced with us.
