My third graders are bookworms! They love to get cozy and read around the room. Reading time never seems long enough! My students are active participants in our learning community. They encourage and support one another.
My third graders come from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Many students receive free or reduced meals. They bring with them a wide variety of interests and background knowledge.
They love working together in partners or small groups on activities and projects. My students enjoy learning new things and taking on new challenges.
My Project
A classroom should feel warm and welcoming. Students need movement throughout the school day to help them stay focused on learning expectations. A classroom area rug would provide students the space to be comfortable in learning, all while being close to their teacher and classmates. The rug will be used both for whole class instruction and individual student use during all times of day. It will help create a cozy-welcoming learning space.
The reason why it is so important for us to have a large rug in our classroom is because it is our meeting area.
It is the heart of our classroom. This is where we meet for readers and writers workshop mini lessons, where students can play academic games, where we go for read aloud and author’s chair (when a student shares something he or she has written), and maybe most importantly where we have class meetings to encourage each other, compliment each other, and build up our character and academic self esteem.
