Help me give my students quality, high interest books and display/storage options! I would love to curate and display a collection of tried and true favorite books to engage my students and enhance their learning.
My students are 5th graders who are brand new to our district's middle school! They come to me specifically for their ELA instruction, which includes: reading, writing, vocabulary, and grammar.
Research shows that reading aloud to students at this age is still a highly effective practice, and over the years, I have found several great books for this age group.
Sustaining students' love for a good book is a priority that shouldn't be lost in middle school.
My past students have loved these books, and I have been able to design reading and writing lessons that correlate to the books which are more engaging and effective than a worksheet! In addition, having access to a wide array of quality books that are high interest is a very effective vehicle for inspiring a student's life long love of reading!
My Project
I have curated a collection of high quality books that I have used and loved throughout the years (borrowed from the library) These particular books were the most beloved by my students and are of strong literary quality to expand their growing minds! There is a variety of fun fiction with great themes and interesting nonfiction to enhance their knowledge of the world around them! I like to incorporate short read-aloud text into our ELA classes to teach reading comprehension strategies and model how readers analyze text and information. These particular books always hold the students attention and have become a favorite part of our class together! Having this fantastic book collection housed in our classroom for us to access would be so helpful!
