A Love Of Reading Has No Bounds

My students need 25 books/book sets to read during independent reading time.

My Students

That new book smell, the slight crack when you open a new book. The glint of a shiny book cover. These are delights I want my students to experience!

I teach second grade in New York.

Most of my students come from low income families, and many are new arrivals to the country. Several of my children, while they speak English beautifully, speak another language at home. Celebrating the wonderful diversity of our school community is something we are proud of.

My Project

I am requesting several books, mostly fiction, for the children to read during independent reading time each day. The kids will also be allowed to borrow these books to practice their reading and share them with their families. These interesting new books will motivate my children to practice reading, which will strengthen their literacy skills and hopefully build a lifelong love of reading!

Many of my children do not have books at home, so for them, the classroom is a treasure trove of literacy.

Most of my children speak another language at home, or are just learning English, so reading every day is vital to my students!
