Help me give my students some familiar books to create an at home connection to our classroom. Instead of missing our supportive community, students will have a tool for when we are not available.
Our little classroom provides a safe, predictable learning environment for students who, for various reasons, have a need for very individualized support throughout the school day. Often their social emotional skills are developed in response to adverse childhood experiences.
These amazing students come to school and often muddle through the day striving to maintain some sort of equilibrium.
This is often found in investigating topics of their choice, working together to solve problems, and helping each other through times of turbulance.
My Project
The regulation tools provided by these characters are presented in a very personal way. We all connected to the situations and were comforted by the problem solving process. Author and Illustrator Diane Alber engaged us all right from the very first page!
While these books can not replace the community we have created in our classroom, they can provide some safety and consistency to the very students who fell in love with the Spots.
Author and illustrator engaged us all from the very first page. I can't think of a better way to support students from afar during this unusual time.
