My Students

I am a school counselor at an economically diverse rural school in eastern North Carolina that is full of willing learners, yet short on resources. More than one-third of our students qualify for free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch, 33% have a parent in the military, and greater than 11% have special needs.

Our school implements a school-wide, positive behavior intervention and support system (PBIS).

PBIS is a prevention framework that works for all students! PBIS emphasizes the establishment of organizational supports and systems that gives our school staff the capacity to use effective interventions accurately and successfully to achieve behavioral changes.

My Project

Our school would like to create a PBIS lounge. The purpose of the lounge is to have a fun and inviting space that students can attain access as a reward for meeting school-wide behavioral expectations.

We envision the lounge to be a place where students can relax, play games, draw, build, create, or just socialize in comfortable furniture and simply enjoy being there.

This Part 1 project is requesting 2 very cool high-top tables and stools. These table sets are retro-looking, but have a "now" appeal, hopefully, and it will be a seat that our preteens will enjoy! The project is also requesting 2 bright blue wobble stools. With these two furniture items, our students will have a fun, energized place to share their success with other successful students, too! Help us show our students that a little positivity goes a long way!
