Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I absolutely love the energy and determination my students bring to class each day. My 9- and 10-year-olds are curious, hardworking, and eager to succeed despite the challenges they face. Many come from low-income households, and they thrive in a structured, supportive environment where their efforts are celebrated and rewarded.

To encourage focus, teamwork, and respect, my class uses a point-based system where table groups earn rewards for completing tasks, following instructions, and supporting one another.

Each week, the team with the most points selects prizes from a classroom prize box. The items I’m requesting—keychains, pens, gliders, slime kits, and stamps—will transform this prize box into an exciting incentive that motivates students to stay engaged and work collaboratively.

These resources will also allow me to introduce lessons on financial literacy. Students are already comparing large numbers, setting team goals, and learning the value of effort and patience as they work to earn rewards. With these materials, they’ll gain a better understanding of how actions translate to outcomes, laying the groundwork for real-world skills like saving, budgeting, and earning income.

My goal for this project is to create a learning environment where students not only build academic skills but also grow as individuals who value teamwork and persistence. Your support will provide them with meaningful incentives to stay motivated while fostering important life skills.
