Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am currently an academic intervention teacher in the Bronx. My school is in a high-need community where over 95% of the students receive free lunch. I work with all the students in the school from kindergarten to fifth grade.
One area that the entire school has been working on is discipline. For the past two years we have used positive behavior intervention strategies to improve overall behavior in the school. The students receive tickets from school staff for acts of kindness. They also earn tickets for displaying responsibility, respect, and safety. The students use these tickets at the school store on Fridays. Overall, this program has been a success. The climate in our school has changed.
The school store has been successful. The students get very excited to exchange tickets for prizes. However, our resources are low. We need extra incentives to add to our store supply.
Your donation will make it possible for the entire school to continue to promote positive behavior. With less behavioral distractions, student will be able to focus on their academic work.
