A Little Extra Something for My Hardworking Students!
My students need items like clipboards in order to engage with kinesthetic activities during class as well as have chart paper to create posters to hang around the classroom. The candy is used as rewards/incentives!

My Students
Although I will be teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students, my classroom will be supportive, safe, and challenging. Every student will be expected to push the boundaries of their learning by taking risks and thinking outside the box.
Students will be given the necessary tools to be able to start thinking about how their lived experiences have shaped their identities as they navigate the environment they live in.
I will be teaching 88 unique, diverse, and capable students at an urban tk-8 school in Oakland, CA. I firmly believe that each one of these students has something they can bring to the classroom, and something I can learn from. Expectations in my classroom are sky-high because I am unwavering in my belief that high expectations breed the high performance I know every student is capable of.
Each grade has proven to have their own challenges and strengths and I am excited at the challenge of being able to support and push each of my students to achieve their utmost excellence.
My Project
I try to engage my students in their learning as much as possible; this means they are often asked to take their notes around the classroom to talk to other students or perhaps view some critical primary sources like photos. To facilitate this, I am asking for clipboards! My largest class has 37 students and they're currently carrying around textbooks/full binders to be able to write their notes as we go through class. The students will use the clipboards to travel around the room to write their notes.
I try to support all styles of learning: kinesthetic, visual, auditory, and spatial in my instruction.
Hence why I am asking for so much chart paper! The chart paper is crucial to instruction; we use them for "anchor charts". These are hand written charts that have lists such as "Things Close Readers Do" to remind students throughout the day of good reading habits. I often give the chart paper to the students to make their own lists of classroom rules and expectations so they feel like the classroom space takes their needs and desires into account.
I try to have incentives embedded within my procedures. All students have a stamp card where I go around and award "scholar stars" to students who are exceeding expectations. I try to give at least one star to every student during every period, thus enforcing a positive environment where they feel like they're rewarded for hard work. Every Friday, students can cash in their "scholar stars" for goodies like candy bars, Gummi Bear snacks, and school supplies. By helping to fund these incentives, you would help build a space where students become familiar with life skills like earning currency (scholar stars), saving saving it, and spending it wisely on things they want.
