I teach grades PreK-5th grade in a Title I school. Many of our children come from low-income families and all children at my school receive breakfast and lunch at no cost. My school is based in North Carolina close to the second-largest military base. My school serves many children associated with active military families.
As a music teacher, I want to allow my students access and opportunity to actively engage in the required music curriculum.
My students thrive on kinesthetic engagement and learning. The majority of my students are not provided the opportunity to enhance their music skills outside of a school setting, therefore I am striving to increase their access to musical material. My students are actively engaged in all music opportunities I provide to them, they are just in need of suitable artistic supplies. Many of my students come from single parent or low-income households.
My Project
My students are not given the opportunities that other schools are able to give their students. Many of my students will only have a chance to attend music symphonies and let alone play a musical instrument in a music classroom. I will use the materials and equipment to provide those opportunities to my students who are less fortunate. Many of my students are written me letters thanking me for opening doors and encouraging them to accomplish their dreams.
As a music teacher, my job is to discover their musical talents and positively push them to take chances.
I am asking for glockenspiels because students will be able to play familiar songs and hear creative melodies of their own. For students who are not able to grasp the concepts of recorders, they will be provided with an additional resource. Students will then have to chance to feel more comfortable with their own unique talents.
