My students need various materials like the new American Library Association Award Winning books, the new OSMO STEM game, a charging unit with batteries for our listening center and a LEGO box for creative play.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a low socio-economic school where most of my students predominantly speak Spanish. My students are at varying levels of academic ability. Parents do their best to help at home but most of them do not speak the language. They are striving their hardest to learn as much as they can considering the obstacles they face and most importantly they come to school eager to learn. Our school is a Title I school with a majority of our students receiving free or reduced-price lunch.
This year because of Hurricane Maria, our school has welcomed many students from Puerto Rico.
These students need high interest and hands on materials to stay engaged in our reading lessons. Not only are these students working to learn how to read, many of them are learning how to read in a new language! I want them to have all of the tools they need to be as successful as possible.
My Project
For this project I am requesting A Little Bit Of Everything that goes into making a successful classroom experience for students. Typically, I would continue to update my classroom library as new books come out or in this case - The American Library Association gives out the awards to the best children's books of the year, update our STEM centers with new LEGOS or OSMO kits, and buy necessary equipment like rechargeable batteries so that our listening center works better in a classroom where there are very few power outlets, but finances are tough right now and that is why I am asking for your help in funding this project.
Benjamin Franklin once said: "An investment in knowledge pays the best interest" and I am hoping you can invest in my students' education.
My students have had a rocky start to their school year after Hurricane Irma hit our city and then Hurricane Maria devastated homes of families in Puerto Rico and thus forcing them to be displaced in our community. I am making it my mission to have this year be a memorable and effective learning experience for all.
The books I have chose were just awarded on February 12th by The American Library Association as the best children's books of the year. These have been carefully reviewed and have been selected because of the powerful messages they carry and the great use of literary elements. The LEGOS and OSMO encourage open-ended building play, and inspire imagination. They will be using LEGO pieces and the OSMO kit as alternative ways to express and create art and illuminate sophisticated and complex STEAM concepts. Finally, we have very few power outlets in our class which make it difficult to have technology plugged in. We need rechargeable batteries to help us out.
