Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are energetic kids with a love of learning. Over 90% of our students come from low-income households. A large percentage of our families meet the definition of homeless. My parents are struggling to pay rent and get food on the table. And yet, our children still want to create, read, write, and learn!
My kindergartners worry about starting school (and staying safe); and yet, they still want to come to school to explore, learn and grow.
I am trying to meet my students' needs emotionally, as well as academically, during this pandemic. I want them to be safe and stay healthy as they work hard to learn to read, learn to use technology, and at the same time, learn language arts, math, science and social studies.
My Project
This is a unique school year. I have been preparing my classroom and my students' school bags to go home to start this year in distance learning.
To help my kids succeed, I would like to provide my students and our classroom with needed learning materials while we are in this mixed schedule of home and school learning and teaching.
The First Sight Word Journal will help us to read and write High Frequency Words (HFW). Magnetic Whiteboard erasers and letters will help with home participation in writing. The Swing and Catch game will go home with the children to reinforce eye hand coordination and provide a little physical education, as well.
When we are in the classroom in our hybrid model, the Tough Totes will withstand 5 year-olds tugging and pulling lids and bins and they are easy to disinfect to reduce the worry of spreading germs. The Labels and label pocket sleeves are for identifying and sorting. The Hook and Loop floor markers will motivate and remind kids of 6 foot social distancing. The Paper Sorter Compartment is for student writing paper choices, assignments for students, and organization of Reading Lists and notes to send home to families.
Our class needs a little bit of everything to work from home and school! I would love to have these tools available to my students to help them succeed. Thank you for considering my grant for your donation.
