A Little Art, To Lift Our Hearts

Help me give my students basic drawing supplies of pencils, sharpeners, pens and sketchbooks to let their creativity flow.

My Students

My students may be small, but they abound with joy and curiosity! I teach 2nd grade in a high-poverty Title I school, where kids arrive eager to learn, knowing they can count on being cared for and provided with what they need to gain an understanding about the world around them. In addition to students with learning disabilities, I have kids who are refugees from war-torn countries or who have experienced trauma at home, which makes it more difficult for them to excel academically. This is a particular challenge now that we are trying to maintain our classroom community while distance learning.

My students dearly miss their classroom, friends, and learning together.

With many of our families under economic stress, our kids need more than ever to have ways to express their feelings. Art supplies such as watercolors, pens, and notebooks are a small luxury that most cannot afford at home.

My Project

Fridays at school, our class takes time for art in the afternoons. This is not only fun and uplifting, but also allows students to connect in new ways to what we’ve been learning throughout the week.

I'd like to bring our Fun Friday art time into their homes and give my kids the ability to express their unique view on the world during these unusual times.

These basic art supplies would allow me to bring art lessons into our day again, and create much-needed space where students can calm their hearts, share their feelings, and use their creativity to brighten their homes. I plan to deliver the erasers, notebooks, pencils and other items to my kids.
