This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is located in the heart of Brooklyn. My students represent a range of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, with their diverse talents and gifts making them shine brighter than any darkness or hardships they have experienced in their lives, especially most recently as a result of COVID-19.

My classroom serves as a vessel of hope and provides a nurturing environment.

It further promotes risk and at times moments of failure, only for students to further succeed thus afterwards. My students are just beginning to discover who they truly are, as we tackle the concept of "identity," and discovery of who they want to grow to become.

My Project

I hope with the funding of this project, a light will once again arise in students' eyes once they access to a vast assortment of graphic novels. The pandemic has caused a significant delay in reading skills. With the use of these novels for students to access within the classroom and home environment, I hope for students to gain a passion for reading. We will use these books during independent reading time and within academic structures.
