A Listening Center to Engage Young Minds

My Students

I teach a group of lively and curious first graders. Their thirst for knowledge is intoxicating! We participate in “Mystery Science” lessons every week on the computer during whole group. My students love this time and look forward to these videos. This time always prompts discussions which usually lead into technological inquiry on my part. My students love this time and look forward to these videos and discussions. I would love to be able to provide them with the technology to continue to explore on their own. Having tablets which are easy to navigate and readily available would be perfect for students to continue to explore topics and places of interest.

My Project

My students do not have access to a listening center during small group time. I would like to purchase these tablets so we will be able to use applications such as Raz-Kids and Epic! and help my students to read books that interest them even if they are above their reading level. A tablet-based listening center will be very user friendly for my younger students and will be easy to manage and keep track of progress. It will allow for me to make assignments for my individual students and differentiate if they have specific reading needs. This will be a great benefit to my classroom and my students.
