Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are outgoing. They are creative. They are explorers. They are scientists, architects, artists, and storytellers. They are four and five-years-old. My students are just beginning their school experience, and they deserve materials that show them that learning is fun!
Just this year, our 100 year-old school went from being exclusively for pre-k students, to turning into a primary school that serves pre-k and kindergarten students.
Next school year, we will be making room for four first grade classrooms as well.
All of the students attending our title-one primary school come from a variety of backgrounds and speak a variety of languages- thirteen different languages, to be exact. Often, our students may be faced with many different kinds of challenges both inside and outside of the classroom. I want to provide materials for my students that will help lay the foundation to for them to become successful lifetime learners.
My Project
Listening is an essential part to a child's development, and is an overall important life skill. Listening is necessary in order for children to be able to learn how to problem solve, follow directions, and make friends.
My goal for my classroom is to have an area where my students can sit in a small group and listen to familiar stories.
The All-In-One CD Player has eight headphone jacks so that a small group of students can listen to a story at the same time. The Flex Space Wobble Cushions will give my littles a space to sit, look at a book, and listen to a story. The classic story books, "The Three Billy Goats Gruff," and "The Three Little Pigs," are perfect for starting a listening library that my students will love. The puppets and felt pieces of the same stories will give my students practice retelling the stories with their classmates.
