Help me give my students opportunities to expand their creativity through a variety of different art experiences. Preschoolers love to spend time in the art center painting, drawing, cutting and gluing with different materials.
Teaching in an integrated preschool classroom filled with nineteen young learners that range in age from 2.9 all the way up to five is the most rewarding experience. All of my students show up to school each day with so much to offer and are always ready to learn, explore and engage with their peers.
If I could describe them in five words, they would be; thoughtful, curious, resilient, cheerful and creative.
With a mixed age classroom, along with several students who have communication, gross motor, and fine motor delays, it is my job to provide them with an environment and materials that engage, challenge and push them to be the best they can be.
My Project
The art center in preschool is a highly preferred area that most children choose to visit throughout their day. The ability to provide these children with a variety of materials to manipulate and experiment with is important.
Providing our youngest learners with a space to explore and create using different art materials helps them build fine motor skills and is also a lot of fun!
In my preschool classroom, we love to keep most of our art open-ended to allow for children to express their own creativity however they would like. What one child does when given paper, glue and scissors may look entirely different from another child. We love to paint at the table, easel, and windows, discovering and making observations about what happens when colors mix together, or the textures that emerge when using different tools. We have also found that with some of our children who have delayed fine motor skills, using a triangular crayon can increase confidence about using a strong grip.
