Our high school is made up of approximately 1000 students, grades 9-12. We have around 90% of our students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. Despite resources in the school and families sometimes being tight, our students are passionate about their learning. As a first-year high school librarian, my goal is to continue to build our library into the school’s informational and community hub.
Despite what happens outside the school day, students deserve a library that will help to expand their imaginations, allow them to collaborate and create all while providing a comfortable, safe, enriched environment to explore.
My Project
Our library needs to be modernized with updated collaborative learning tables and seating. This project will continue the process of revolutionizing our library into a "Learning Commons" for many events, maker space, and collaborative learning. Flexible furniture will allow us to easily create on-demand spaces to meet various needs of the library.
The furniture I have chosen provides for collaboration among students, faculty and functionality for various library activities, maker space activities, and events.
Our current furniture is wooden, hard, heavy, uncomfortable, and not suited to reading, relaxing or moving for collaboration. New, modern table spaces will move the library forward as the largest learning space in the school building.
