My Students

The students that come into my classroom are from all different walks of life. They speak different languages and come from different countries. Usually, coming into my class is their first experience with American culture and sometimes even their first experience with school in general.

Because of their diverse backgrounds, the students that come into my class have a lot to learn when they walk through my door.

They are not only learning what is taught in the third grade, but they are also learning how to speak English. Each of these tasks is difficult by itself; put them together and you have a whole new learning challenge. The students still show up every day ready to learn and ready to push through the struggle!

My Project

I have a favorite quote form Dr. Seuss "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." I use these words as a foundation for my classroom. I want to ignite the love of reading in all of my students. And I want this love of reading to open their minds to new ideas.

To do this, I need books that represent my students and that my students can learn from.

All of the titles I have chosen show kids from similar backgrounds as my students and are books that I can use to launch discussions on the incredible and amazing differences between us in this world. I want my students to be open to all, to become advocates for those who need it and hopefully sprinkle a little bit of extra kindness into the world.
