Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 6th grade at an urban charter school in downtown San Diego. This means that my students are a diverse group of pre-teens! They come from all different backgrounds, and as a charter school, they come from all different neighborhoods around San Diego!

We learn so much from each other all year long, and our diversity is certainly one of our greatest strengths!

Our project-based-learning school is very hands-on, and working collaboratively is essential for getting projects completed. My students use literature as a lens to see the world around them!

My Project

Our 6th grade has a small classroom library, but in order to find something that all of my readers will love, we need to build a library that suits us all! We are a diverse group of learners, and we need a library to match our unique personalities.

This library project will help support reading requirements that require students to read 30 minutes every day!

Reading every day takes a lot of books, and a lot of variety. We'd like a book for every one of our pre-teen moods! Reading will help students grow, and see perspectives other than their own!

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
