This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are funny, caring, unique, and inquisitive about everything. Our school is a downtown school that serves mostly free or reduced price lunch students. We are an International Baccalaureate school and we have high expectations that students will make a positive impact in their world regardless of where they come from. Our diverse population teaches our students to become global citizens.

I encourage and challenge my students to be the best person at home, at school and in their community.

My Project

For the past few years, my library has entertained many students. The books in our class library have been taking students on adventures, through spooky forests, down an education/ informational path and even how to problem solving. However, I have noticed, that I have given away many books to students over the past five years. I have also noticed the books are wearing and been repaired many times.

My students asked to help rebuild our class library.

When I heard their suggestions on the books they wanted, I thought.... "This is genius! The students choosing are choosing magnificent books. They will want to visit our reading corner more frequently if their choices are on the shelves." So I created this for them.

The students have requested all of these books. There are several classic book sets and over 25 Biographies in this project totaling over 80 new books for my students to eventually read.

All of the biography books will be a great source of knowledge when the students start studying our next Social Studies Planner based on Sociology; people and their actions. Many of the biographies in this project will give my students the opportunity to learn about how these key historical figures played a role in developing our world to become a better place.

Even though this project is truly student-led, I support it 100%!
