My students need to learn about art from a professional artist, so they will create their own piece and learn artist's techniques!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are special because they are part of a school community that serves homeless youth and families. Many of my students have experienced trauma in their young lives. I am always amazed how even under these circumstances, my students still exceed my expectations.
Our school is located in south-central San Diego in one of the oldest and most culturally-rich urban neighborhoods in San Diego.
Our school serves students in grades K-8th and provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers, and a safe learning environment.
My Project
The art teacher will guide my students in a pointillism lesson and students will create their own piece on a canvas to keep. She will spend Instructional time with my students sharing pointillism art, teaching them techniques for creating pointillism art, and creating a final art piece.
I am excited for my class to have the opportunity to work with a real artist.
I hope it inspires my students to see the value in creative careers. I also desire to show my students who think they can't do art that they can learn techniques artists use to be successful at art.
