Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I work in a dual immersion (Spanish/English) school. This means some students come in speaking English and some come in speaking Spanish. Instruction occurs in both languages so students graduate bilingual and bi-literate.My students are bilingual, which is amazing, but they are also kind, funny, and inquisitive.
My students are obsessed with graphic novels.
I am so happy they love to read, but so many graphic novels I only own in English. Because our school gives instruction in both English and Spanish so that our students graduate bilingually, it is important that I offer the most engaging books in Spanish as well so that they have more opportunities to improve their Spanish.
These books would allow my students to read the books they want to read while allowing them to practice and/or maintain their Spanish.
It will also show that Spanish is valued as a language!
