I have the absolute privilege to work with eight amazing students. All my students have been diagnosed with severe disabilities, including physical, cognitive, and medical disabilities, and attend a separate school facility due to their need for significant modifications to their learning environment and curriculum. My students are 5-9 years old. Five out of eight of my students are non-verbal and several of my students have a vision impairment, including two who are completely blind.
My students are hard workers and highly motivated to do their best, despite the daily challenges they face.
They are energetic and never give up. My students struggle with the daily skills that we use to complete all tasks, including but not limited to: fine motor, gross motor, communication, hand-eye coordination, involuntary body movements, comprehension, etc.
Despite their challenges, these students are some of the happiest kids and will melt your heart in an instant. They need our help to better accommodate their unique learning needs.
My Project
My students would benefit greatly from a bubble tube as well as a floor lamp. Our overhead lights stretch across the whole room, and are very bright for many of my students. A floor lamp would allow a better lighting experience for my students. The lamp can also change colors, so we could choose the color that best fits the sensory needs of my students.
These items would provide my students with a sensory friendly experience to better meet their needs during the school day.
The bubble tube would be wonderful for my students. They have a wide variety of sensory needs that the bubble tube would provide a positive learning environment for them. Many of my students also have visual deficits, and the bubble tube would provide opportunities for tracking and improving eye gaze.
