Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

AL High School is located in the middle of a low-income community whose population consists mostly of Hispanic students. Many of my students come from a working-class background and unfortunately, do not have the financial resources to provide them with new devices, such as up-to-date laptops and tablets to assist with their learning experiences. I believe that having one more MacBook in the classroom will help me create visually appealing lessons that would be more engaging for my students and keep them attentive. With an extra MacBook in the classroom, I will be able to show real-life examples of Algebra. For Algebra 2, my students will see real-life examples of the effect of exponential functions growth and decay in bacteria, Covid-19 statistical data, different representations of tables and graphs, written explanations, and Desmos.

Not only will it help me create better lessons but the laptop will also be beneficial for students to use.

Students will have access to the laptop during class time, lunch, and after school to work or catch up on assignments on IXL, Edgenuity, CK12, and DeltaMath. I plan to set up different learning stations in my classroom where my students could use this laptop for research and learn how to use Excel spreadsheets. Many of my students this year will be Seniors next school year. Having an extra laptop in the classroom will give the students that do not have access to one at home the opportunity to start and complete their college and scholarship applications. Being able to have an extra Macbook in my classroom can help my students move one step closer to receiving their high school diploma and moving on to greater adventures.
