Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend a school that receives Title I funding and free breakfast and lunch. Gangs, drugs, and violence are always within close proximity. In the midst of this pandemic, they show up every day to class and display a great deal of energy and enthusiasm for learning. I want every second of their learning to be filled with rich experiences.

Many students have never been on a playdate and lack the valuable social experiences that interacting with kids their age can provide.

Some have two working parents or a single parent who is unable to take them to the nearby park or playground because of a demanding work schedule. Little opportunity is given to them to develop the crucial life skills that are needed to thrive.

My Project

My students require a variety of rich learning experiences to help develop their oral language skills. A new play kitchen would undoubtedly pique each child's interest, curiosity, and desire to want to interact with one another and thus elicit the various stages of oral language that would ultimately lead to fluency and language comprehension. My students would be allowed to visit the houesekeeping corner and engage in socialization, problem solving, turn taking, empathy, and much much more. These important social interactions are what makes these learning opportunities fundamental in PreK.
