Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my kindergarten classroom are from a low socioeconomic area in a rural town in southwestern Arizona. We are located close to the border of Mexico. Some students are English language learners and children of military families. They are curious about everything around them. But many of them lack educational support away from the classroom.

My kindergarten students are eager to be 21st-century students learning with a curriculum that promotes and supports reading, science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics.

My favorite quote is a Chinese proverb: "Do not confine our children to your own learning, for they were born in another time."

My Project

My kindergarten students are learning how discover the world safely in a classroom where they need to stay organized, safe, and up to 3 to 6 feet apart. I found that flexible seating arrangements work very well with younger students allowing them to move more freely. Kindergarten remains a very acceptable and fun environment even under the most uncommon demands.

Having areas where kindergarten students can roam, roll, and wiggle but also stay organized and clean is very important in our new learning environment.

My students are in need of a few new laptop desks for our flexible seating areas. All my students need a black 18 QT. tub to store their AVID binders and supplies as they move around the room and work. A non-electric push vacuum in our classroom is ideal to keep our floor area clean for those students who choose floor seating over chairs.

The laptop desks, organizational tubs, and push vacuum are all items my kindergarten students can manage on their own and use freely day to day. These items empower my students to take control of their learning and be comfortable in their own classroom. When students are safe and happy, they succeed!
