This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My classes are full of students who are kind, passionate, and creative. In my class, students are charged with finding topics they are interested in learning about, conducting research and thinking critically about the topics, and using technology to create projects centered on those topics.
The products they design and create allow them to apply what they have learned, demonstrate and display their learning, and impact others in their community.
Their products - posters, CAD drawings, photographs, displays - often need to be printed on a large scale, and this large format printer will be just right for the job(s).
A few examples of ways that this printer will make a difference in my students' learning:
My students learned about children in our community who need practice with reading and comprehension as well as opportunities to build healthy habits through exercise. As a result, they collaborated with community members to make and install a permanent StoryWalk at our school that is available to students as well as the community. They read Let's Look After Our World, a book about taking care of the environment, and used the pages of the book as well as a graphic design software to create StoryWalk posters. The posters teach vocabulary, ask questions about the book, and allow readers to make connections. My students need to print their StoryWalk posters on a large scale in order to display them.
They realized that students have calm down corners in their classrooms, but this resource is missing on the playground (where there are lots of opportunities to get mad, frustrated, or sad). In response, they designed creative posters/signs about ways to reset emotions (breathing strategies, etc.) The poster needs to be big so kids can see it well.
