This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have the joy of teaching a class of exceptional high school students (grades 9–12) who are developing academic, employability, and life skills that will support their success beyond the classroom. My students learn best through hands-on, real-world experiences—especially when it comes to building independence.

This year, our classroom is getting a major upgrade: over the summer, we’ll have cabinets, countertops, and a sink with running water installed, creating the foundation for a functional classroom kitchen.

This space will allow us to teach vital daily living skills like washing produce, doing dishes, boiling water, preparing simple meals, and understanding measurement—all while reinforcing academic concepts in meaningful ways.

We’ve raised funds for most of the supplies, but there’s one big piece missing: a refrigerator.

Having a refrigerator in our classroom would allow us to safely store ingredients, pack lunches, chill drinks, and support weekly cooking lessons. It’s a key component in giving students access to real-life learning opportunities they can carry into adulthood.

Your support will help us complete this life skills kitchen and give our students the chance to grow in confidence, independence, and practical know-how.
